About Rooted Nutrition
Sarah Jan Kelly is an integrative nutritionist and Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) based in Philadelphia. She focuses on nutrition as self-care and intuitive eating in a world set up to cut us off from our own bodies and intuitions. She is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to be well.
With a background in community organizing, a commitment to social and economic justice, and a queer/feminist and anti-racist approach to wellness, Sarah understands that our health is intertwined with that of our communities, and is impacted by intersecting systems. Drawing on these insights as well as her M.S. in Nutrition and Integrative Health, Sarah offers nutritional support and coaching grounded in the context of your whole life.
Sarah brings the empathy and knowledge needed to guide you on your wellness journey.
Having navigated her own complicated journey with food and health, Sarah brings the empathy and knowledge needed to guide you on your wellness journey. Even if you feel like you have “tried everything” or “don’t even know where to begin,” Rooted Nutrition is for you.
If you are worried you will never be able to make any permanent changes to the way you eat… you are exactly the kind of person Sarah is excited to work with!
Nutrition as Self-Care
Mental-health aware, gender-affirming, and trauma-informed nutrition counseling.
Sarah deeply understands the overlap between our mental health and our relationship to food, be it disordered eating patterns or the way food impacts our mood and stress levels. (She is also very familiar with the way our brains and bodies seem to sabotage our attempts to help them feel better.) While food is the focus, Sarah can also guide you through other self-care practices, including mindfulness and movement.
Sarah LOVES to learn and if she isn’t working on a project in the kitchen, you will often find her reading (history, nutrition journals, science fiction, philosophy, etc.)
You can count on her to both learn about your specific health needs and condense her knowledge into easy-to-digest recommendations.
Sarah practices science-based personalized nutrition therapy that empowers people to reclaim their health.
Sarah lives in West Philadelphia with her wife, Maria, their cat Terry, and two plants she is trying to keep alive. She loves baking, pilates, herbal infusions, accuracy, naps, and fairness.
